cumbria's first ever fishing festival...

Fisherman

For the first time, there will be a week-long fishing festival in Cumbria this month. May 16-22, there will be a number of fishing events across the region. The festival starts with an open day at Bessie Beck Trout Farm on Saturday May 16. There are numerous events throughout the week for both beginners and seasoned fishermen (and women!), and they can all be found here.

As part of the Festival of Fishing Cook in Cumbria will be looking at how to prepare and cook the fish you have caught (or bought). On Saturday 23 May, cooking teacher Yelly de Jong will show different ways to cook fish, filleting, and a range of wonderful sauces including gooseberry sauce, herb paste and gremolata. She will be demonstrating a number of dishes, all of which participants can try at lunchtime with a glass of wine. They will include Chinese steamed trout, salmon, crab pots and Yelly's favourite fish pie. Participants will also be making a dish to take home. High Chapel House, the home of Cook in Cumbria, is located in Ravenstonedale.
