The Altura Trail at Whinlatter Forest & Visitor Centre
Whinlatter Forest is home to the longest purpose-built mountain bike trail in the Lake District. The Altura Trail puts the mountain back into biking and has been built for experienced riders with good off-road skills and a higher level of fitness and stamina. The trail is a 19 kilometre red grade moountian bike route which includes 15 kilometres of new single track. there are challenging single track sections and popular features like berms, jumps, rock features, skinnies, cork screws and table tops. there are alos fantastic view of Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite, Helvellyn and Skiddaw as the trail takes the rider to an altitude of 500m above Keswick.
Also available to try is the Quercus Trail, a blue route. Bikes are available to hire or buy from Cyclewise, the onsite shop, who also offer a range of skills and bike maintenance courses.

The visitor centre, shop and Siskins cafe open 10.00 - 17.00 in summer and 16.00 in winter (November to Easter).
