focus on farfield mill
Farfield Mill is home to four floors of inspirational cultural gems. It is an arts and heritage centre in a beautiful, restored Victorian woollen mill and is a leading venue for textile arts in the North West. When you visit, you will enjoy heritage displays, working weaving looms, regularly changing exhibitions, craft demonstrations, art and craft for sale by resident and visiting artists, workshops and events - plus delicious food in the Weavers Café... The Mill also hosts a weekly ‘Knit and Natter' group on Tuesdays at 1pm.
Current exhibitions include:
Building Up to Something by Jamie Barnes, a talented local artist and printmaker - he is particularly inspired by the Fellside area of Kendal where he lives.
The Climate Is Changing features 50 contemporary textile artworks from 12 countries and explores the impact of human actions on the environment.
Working Woodlands is a month long celebration of coppice, its history and heritage, the story of its workers and the beautiful and useful itemsproduced from this ancient and sustainable process.
Highlights

Little Black Dress at Tullie House Art Gallery is an exhibition surveying the evolution of this iconic garment over the past 100 years. The costumes are contextualised by film footage, studio photography and dress patterns more details

Abbot Hall Art Gallery in Kendal, is a fitting backdrop for an exhibition of work by seminal British artist Richard Long. Part of the ARTIST ROOMS collection, from Tate and National Galleries of Scotland, you can watch a film of the artist at work here.
