Free cycling activities for all the family this summer!
Enjoy great rides out at a relaxed pace on the best cycle lanes, byways and trails. With no hassle of getting lost, fixing punctures or choosing a route just come along on these FREE guided rides or cycle at your own pace as the routes with maps and with full directions are available.
All children should be accompanied by an adult, rides set off at 11:30am and finish between 3:30pm and 4:30pm. Come with a packed lunch, snacks, drinking water, a spare warm top and waterproof jacket. Guides will carry tools but bikes, if brought, should be in good working order as there is no guarantee the guides will be equipped for all repairs.

Dates
Sunday 18th July, River Caldew, Carlisle (lanes)
Escape from the very centre of Carlisle on the cycleway that follows the River Caldew into the lovely, gently rolling countryside that lies south of the city as we head out to the village of Dalston and beyond, covering 18 miles.
Wednesday 28th July, Whitehaven (lanes)
Starting out at the coast we head inland to the National Park, following the River Ehen for part of the way and using some of the traffic-free cycle ways and quiet back roads popular with coast-to-coast cyclists. This is a 20 mile ride.
Tuesday 3rd August, Askham nr Penrith (mountain biking)
Take in views of the beautiful lake Ullswater as we ride a mixture of tracks, grassy trails, stony bridleways and back roads to explore Askham Fell and its stone circle. This ride will be between 9 and 11 miles.
Wednesday 11th August, Ennerdale (mountain biking)
A valley ride on mainly forest tracks past the lake at Ennerdale and deep into the mountains, beneath the peaks of High Stile and Haystacks on one side, with Pillar and Kirk Fell on the other. This is a 19 mile ride.
Friday 20th August, Ulverston (lanes)
A 13 mile back lane ride that explores the little known lanes and villages of south Cumbria, starting out in Ulverston and heading north into the National Park to follow the River Crake.
Wednesday 25th August, Claife Heights, Windermere (mountain biking)
A beautiful 9 mile mountain bike ride in the central Lake District, with stunning views across the mountains. We ride over the ridge of Claife Heights, which involves some climbs and descents on forest tracks, grassy and stony bridleways and some roads.

Evening rides, Penrith
These evening rides from Penrith starting at 6.30pm from French Fields Sports Centre will explore the tranquil Eden Valley, the Lyvenette Valley and the eastern edge of the Lake District. Ride out with the instructors or collect a map and go it alone., either way these routes and relaxing and enjoyable.
All children should be accompanied by an adult, rides set off at 6.30pm and finish between 8:30pm and 9.00pm. The distances are a guide only as the routes may vary slightly depending on the ability of the group, the weather, ground conditions etc. Come with snacks, drinking water, a spare warm top and waterproof jacket. Bikes can be provided free of charge if pre-booked, subject to availability. Please email cycling@cumbriatourism.org or call 01539 825074 to book a bike.
