“Great staff, great accommodation, great food.”

We were looking for a quiet break in the Lakes. Having looked at one of the major review websites we found Lyzzick Hall Hotel. Well the reviews are not wrong. After booking the hotel on line we received a personalised email confirming the booking.
The hotel is set in a lovely area, just far enough away from the busy areas so as not to be bothered by the crowds. There is plenty of car parking and it is possible to drop off right at the front door.
Check in was straight forward. It was a pleasant surprise not to have to give credit card details. We were then given a friendly tour of the hotel then taken to our room. We have paid the extra to have a superior room and it was overall well worth it. The room was spotless. Large bed, two bedside cabinets, two easy chairs, small table, dressing table, flat screen TV, and in built wardrobe. The bathroom was huge with separate bath and shower. Again very clean and very well maintained. It was unfortunate that the view from the room over the fells was slightly obstructed by the roof of the swimming pool room. But when laying on the bed and looking out it was a perfect view. We were generally not bothered by noise. As it is an older building we did hear the floorboards creaking in the next room as people walked about, but we couldn't hear voices or the TV.
The pool area is ideal for a hotel of this size. The area was very clean and well maintained. It was lovely after a day out to come back and relax.
The public rooms are so peaceful. We sat in the conservatory most afternoons. There are table and chairs outside on a gravelled area. The gardens are very well maintained and the views are just superb.
The hotel does have WiFi, but it would only work in the public rooms. We could get no wifi in our room. We just managed a 3G signal (on the Three network) which was amazing considering the location of the hotel.
The food - well its some of the best we have ever had and that is based on eating at various locations around the world. The food was better than a six star hotel we have stayed at in Dubai. The choose was sufficient and they do two additional options each day. There is a extensive wine list.
The most impressive thing is the staff. They are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They are so approachable and make you feel welcome. An example of their flexibility was when we were selecting food from the menu and we were able to change things to meet our needs which was not on the menu, this being at their suggestion!!!!
Will we return to this fantastic family run hotel. It is slightly (only slightly) more expensive so it might be a once a year treat. But saying that the accommodation, food and the level of service is of such a high standard I can understand why.
