camping all year round in cumbria...
With outstanding natural beauty and a host of outdoor pursuits, cultural attractions and festivals, there is something to see and do in Cumbria all year round. Come for some winter walking when the lakes are at their most peaceful, or take a relaxing New Year break and sample the delights so the region's pubs and restaurants. The majority of campsites have a season which lasts from March to November - long enough to take you through from the spring daffodils to the snow-capped fells.
There are even places where you can camp at Christmas. The National Trust campsites at Great Langdale and Wasdale both accept tents all year round to accommodate winter walking and climbing enthusiasts. The Quiet Site on Ullswater is also open all year round to tents, motorhomes and caravans.
For a winter break, Stanwix Park Holiday Centre at Silloth on the west coast is open 12 months a year for tourers or hire vans. With a large indoor swimming pool, gym, ten pin bowling, snooker and pool, there's plenty to keep the family occupied even if the weather outside is bad.
Meanwhile, Sykeside Camping Park in Patterdale valley, is a favourite with families, as well as walkers, climbers and ramblers. There is a welcoming pub, the Brotherswater Inn, just 200 metres away, open all day, every day throughout the year (except Christmas Day).
If you want something more substantial than canvas over your head on a chilly winter's night then try one of the camping barns. Several are open all year round, such as Fell End Camping Barn near Broughton in Furness, and Bents Camping Barn, Kirkby Stephen. St John's in the Vale near Keswick has a woodburning stove, which makes it an ideal winter retreat.
