When did you last wish upon a star? One of the downsides of today's 24 hour society is light pollution. In fact, it has increased so much in recent years that for many people an orange glow has replaced the starry night skies.
Cumbria and the Lake District, however, has some of the darkest skies in the country. On a clear, cloudless night you can see thousands of stars, as well as galaxies and planets, sparkling in the universe.
You don't need any equipment, or even to go anywhere special - anywhere away from a town or streetlighting will do. Just sit back, look up and enjoy the beauty of the big country sky.
