Both Cumbria and the Northwest Tourism Awards recognise excellence within the tourism industry and reward both group and individual achievement over the past year.

In 2007 Stone Cottage in the tiny hamlet of Deepdale, Ullswater Valley won "Self Catering Holiday of the Year". Stone Cottage went on to  win the regional Northwest Awards and has gone forward to represent the Northwest in the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence which will be held in April 2008.

The judges described Stone Cottage as "a luxuriously renovated character house which feels totally at home in its glorious surroundings. Thanks to the welcome, attention to detail and sound environmental policies of owner Helen Griffiths, this is a self catering property with the wow factor of a ‘boutique' hotel".
