Details

Nestling in the shelter of the Troutbeck Valley with views across the Garburn Pass and Applethwaite Moors. A classic Lakeland hostelry that has changed little since its time as a thriving 17thC coaching inn. The rambling rooms are full of character, featuring beams, open fires, ancient carved settles and stone flagged floors. Old prints adorn the walls of the bar created from an Elizabethan 4-poster bed originating from Appleby Castle. A variety of tantelising dishes based on local produce are served in both the bar and restaurant, which also serves real ales from Frederic Robinsons brewery.

We have only one family room here - one of our Lakeland Double rooms offers a double sofa bed for upto 2 children (and space for a cot too) although some other rooms do have space for a z-bed or cot also. Dogs are welcomed in 2 of our Lakeland Double rooms on the ground floor of our annex. We do ask the owners not to allow their pet on the bed and to bring their dog's bed. There is an additional charge of £20.00. Children welcome from any age.

From the south, M6 jct 36, follow the A590 which becomes A591 to Windermere, staying on this road towards Ambleside for a mile. At the mini roundabout just past Windermere, turn right on A592 for Troutbeck. The Queen's Head is on the left 0.75 mile past the village church.
From the North: M6 jct 40, take the A66 towards Keswick. At the first roundabout turn left on to A592 which runs along the side of Ullswater and then over Kirkstone Pass to Troutbeck. The Queen's Head is on the right.
