Glass Cutting

Glass Cutting

Details

The intensive one-day workshop introduces you to the craft of traditional glass cutting on a diamond lathe. The workshops are suitable for people with no experience of working with glass. The maximum number of participants is four, ensuring you enjoy extremely high levels of personal support and supervision throughout the day. You will be introduced to a range of diamond cutting wheels and shown what they do, how they are used, health & safety issues and then supported through a series of practical exercises. You will learn how to cut lines, create patterns and oval lenses and end up producing your own glasses which you keep. Two hi-ball tumblers, made in 30% lead crystal at Cumbria Crystal are included in the cost, as is acid polishing to create a beautiful shine.

Creativity is key, so Heather will also demonstrate how designs are developed & transferred to glasses ready for the cutting process. After lunch theory will be put into practice & you will develop your own design, transfer it onto the remaining glasses and create two finished glasses ready for home use & to show friends. Additional glasses are available for purchase should the creative bug take hold!

After the course your glass will be polished by the factory staff in a mixture of hydrofluoric and sulphuric acid, bringing them to a high shine and finished state. This is a hazardous process so it is done separately.

Your finished creations will be ready for collection four days after the workshop, or if you are unable to collect courier delivery can be arranged.
