Ten head-turning electric Renault Twizys have been presented to tourism businesses, who are hiring out the funky vehicles to visitors wanting to explore the nooks and crannies of the Lake District without the need for petrol power.
With no engines, exhausts or fuel systems, they can be driven at the push of a button and are all part of the ‘See More’ programme encouraging us to get around in a fun, eco-friendly way on our holidays.
To make the Twizys distinctly Cumbrian and put a smile on people’s faces, each vehicle has been decorated as a sheep, with its own distinctive personality. They have also been named in traditional Westmorland and Cumberland dialect, spanning the numbers one (Yan) to ten (Dec).
They are free from noisy engines too, giving passengers the chance to get closer to nature by enjoying the sounds of birdsong or simply savouring the sound of silence.
