Penrith on a Plate

Penrith on a Plate

Details

Sample some of the finest foods and beverages lovingly produced in Eden and beyond at the annual Penrith on a Plate food festival day.

This picturesque market town right in the heart of Cumbria hosts the talented artisans behind award-winning produce and crafts, along with cooking demonstrations by local celebrity chef John Crouch. Add in a hearty helping of music and entertainment, and it’s a delicious day out for foodies and families alike.

Foodies will love…

Cookery Demos with John Crouch
Get under the skin of Cumbrian cuisine with demonstrations by local celebrity chef John Crouch. You’ll take away lots of practical tips and inspiration from his expert knowledge of historical and traditional dishes, drawing on 30 years of cooking and demonstrating in the UK and internationally. No stranger to the national media, John has featured on TV, radio and in the glossy mags. Unusually, he also specialises in Indian food so bring along your questions about world cuisine, too!

Farmers’ & Artisan Market
Stroll around dozens of stalls and meet the producers behind Cumbria’s celebrated foods and beverages, from award-winning meats, cheeses and preserves to delectable cakes, chocolate and locally roasted coffee.

Penrith Food Assembly
If you love your food local, come and make history with us as we launch this clever way of connecting local producers with local shoppers.

Families will love…

-Meet real farmers and their animals in the Farm to Fork Roadshow urban farm. Hold a fluffy chick, pet a cow and find out all about where your food comes from.
-Roving street entertainers around the town throughout the day
-Music from popular Cumbrian acts, local stars of the future and the extraordinary Barrow Band – you’ll be amazed what you can learn about food from a singing carrot!
-Pick up clever tips on family cooking that won’t cost the earth – from planning the week’s meals to cooking with leftovers and what to do with food waste.

Everyone will love…

-Penrith’s friendly atmosphere and independent shops, cafes and restaurants
-Easy to get here – Penrith is just off the M6 at Junction 40, and is also on the A66, or use our mainline rail station to come by train.
