    “Comfortable base for a walking holiday.”

    I stayed in 'Shire' situated on the first floor. A clean, warm, and well-equipped flat. The location is is ideal, Derwentwater is a short stroll away, as is The Farmers Arms and it is a flat, easy 10 minute walk into Keswick. The only downside, if it is one, there are no views to speak of, but after a days walking through the valleys and over the fells it is a small price to pay for what is a convenient and comfortable base. Good value for money, would recommend it as a place to stay and the 'welcome' bottle of wine was a nice touch. Looking forward to a return visit.

    Derwent House and Brandelhowe form a character Lakeland building, in stone and slate, now converted to form four comfortable holiday suites. We are situated in the small village of Portinscale, just one mile to the west of Keswick - the heart of the Cumbria North Lakes - and on the northern shore of Derwentwater.

    Portinscale lies off the A66 just to the west of Keswick. From jct 40 on M6, take the A66 past Keswick, watch for the sign to turn left for Portinscale, Grange and Newlands Valley. On turning left follow road, past Farmers Arms on your left, and then after 200yds and where road goes right you turn left. We are then some 60yds on the left, immediately before the Derwentwater Hotel opposite.
