Details

An authentic encampment including medieval people of all walks of life, medieval domestic equipment, authentic cooking and crafts, archery, arms and armour, a trebuchet, the captain’s court, music, mumming plays, and many other activities.

Demonstrations of military life including how soldiers of different types are armed and equipped, drill, fighting with various different pole arms.
Demonstrations of siege equipment.

Demonstrations of archery with a long bow.

Have a go archery in which public can participate.

The knight school - where we demonstrate how young people were trained as knights and soldiers and in which members of the public can participate.
Our re-enactments always incorporate a story-line in which all activities are related to the events being depicted during the day.

The public are encouraged to be involved as far as practicable in the events by being able to talk to the re-enactors, and to view and handle reproduction weapons and other objects as well as take part in some of the events such as the knight school and have a go archery.

Notes

  • Unfortunately Appleby Castle is a Grade I listed building and the keep is an ancient monument. For this reason we are unable to erect wheel chair access ramps, although we are looking into a removable ramp. We are unable to offer disabled access throughout the castle.
