Gemma Beeson has performed around the world as soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. Having taken up the piano at the age of 4, much of Gemma’s formative musical experience was as a violinist, performing in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and leading Stockport Youth Orchestra for several years. After completing sixth form at Chetham’s School of Music as a pianist, she studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music, where her teachers were Carole Presland and Paul Roberts.
Recipient of many awards and prizes, Gemma also enjoyed competition success including the Hastings Concerto Competition, Michael Harding International Piano Competition and the Intercollegiate Beethoven Competition. Since graduating, Gemma has worked as an accompanist at Chetham’s School of Music and Wells Cathedral School alongside her busy freelance career. She is currently on the team of staff accompanists at the Royal Northern College of Music and Leeds College of Music as well as on the piano teaching faculty at Chetham’s, and is an examiner for the ABRSM. An alumna of ISMA (2004 & 2005), she returned as staff accompanist in 2015.
In addition to work as an accompanist, Gemma’s freelance playing work encompasses many other genres of music – she appears regularly with the Hallé Orchestra, was a pianist-director in renowned UK multi-piano group Piano Circus for several years, has performed new commissions with contemporary chamber group Psappha, and has made several world première recordings and live broadcasts for the BBC and for the Prima Facie record label. Recent performance venues include the Wigmore, Cadogan and Bridgewater Halls.
This recital will include works by Beethoven, Liszt and Ravel, and will be preceded by afternoon tea and cakes.
This concert is presented as part of Lake District Summer Music’s Patrons Society New Generation Artist concert series 2017. Full details of the remainder of the season are available on the website.
